Iemanjá's Religious Festivity
"Date February 2nd. Day of the celebration over the sea ..."
The Iemanjá’s Festivity is celebrated on February 2nd, in all towns and villages of Tinharé Island, and, of course, in Morro de São Paulo as well. It is a day of devotion, batuques and offerings in honor of the Queen of the Sea. A traditional festivity of great faith and religiosity. Every year the cortege leaves in a procession through the town towards the pier, and from there to go in boats to the place where gifts will be offered to the sea. Odoyáh!
The Majesty of the Seas, Lady of the Oceans, Sacred Mermaid, Iemanjá is the Queen of salt waters, considered the mother of all the Orixás, absolute ruler of the homes, patroness of the families. Named also as Goddess of the Pearls, Iemanjá is the one who caresses the head of the babies at birth.
